Calderwood Hall Wedding Photographer
Calderwood Hall in the KZN Midlands combines a forest ceremony, a lake with its own little island and wide open fields, all on one property. It is a venue that rewards a photographer who is willing to walk a little, and the results are worth it.
Photographing a Wedding at Calderwood Hall
The Forest Ceremony
Ceremonies are held in the forest, with guests seated among the trees waiting for the bride. The forest also works beautifully for groomsmen photos in the morning, with soft light and natural backgrounds. Expect the unexpected out here: at one wedding a herd of cows wandered across to the other side of the woods during the service.
The Chapel, the Lake and the Island
After the ceremony, couples sign the register in the chapel above the forest, then head to the island in the lake to cut the cake. Family photos at the lake are easy to organise, and the water gives a lovely backdrop.
Fields and Golden Light
The open fields are where the magic happens for couple portraits. If you give us time in the late afternoon, the light across the fields is incredible. Smoke bombs with the bridal party in the forest are a fun addition.
Weather
Midlands weather can be dramatic. At Ryan and Michelle’s wedding, a short, heavy hailstorm hit just before the ceremony and cleared in time for the walk down the aisle, and the sun came out for their portraits. We always plan a backup, but we love what changing weather does for the photos.
